At a glance
What we collect
Deen Finder is built to work with as little personal data as possible. Here is everything the app can collect, grouped by why it exists.
Location
With your permission, the app reads your device's location to calculate accurate prayer times for where you are and to find nearby mosques. You can instead type in a city manually in Prayer Settings — that lookup happens on your device's own operating system and is never sent to us. When the app searches for nearby mosques, your coordinates are sent to our server for that one search only; we don't store them against your identity or build a location history.
Things you choose to submit
If you use "Submit Timetable," "Suggest an Event," or the in-app feedback form, we receive whatever you type or attach: your description, an optional contact email, and up to six photos or one PDF. This is only sent when you tap Submit — nothing is collected in the background.
Mosque & events admin accounts
Regular use of Deen Finder needs no account at all. If a mosque or a local organiser registers to manage their own listing, we collect the account email, display name, and phone number they provide, via Firebase Authentication (including "Sign in with Google" if they choose it).
Donations
If you choose to donate, payment is processed entirely by Stripe. We receive your name, email, donation amount, and a Stripe reference id so we can send a receipt — never your card number, which goes directly to Stripe and never touches our servers.
Information that stays on your device
Your prayer calculation preferences, prayed/streak history, cached prayer times, and any Quran text downloaded for offline use are stored locally on your device only. We never receive or see this information.
What we don't collect
Deen Finder does not include any advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting software, and does not send push notifications. Concretely, that means:
- No advertising identifiers, ad SDKs, or ad personalisation of any kind.
- No analytics SDK — we don't track how you use the app, screen views, or in-app events.
- No crash or diagnostic reporting service.
- No push-notification tokens — reminders and adhan alerts are scheduled entirely on your device.
- No contacts, camera roll, microphone, or SMS access beyond the one-time photo/PDF you explicitly choose to attach to a submission.
How we use it
| Data | Used to |
|---|---|
| Location (one-off) | Calculate prayer times for your area and find nearby mosques. |
| Feedback / timetable / event submissions | Review and act on what you sent — e.g. add a mosque's prayer times, publish a suggested event, or reply to your feedback. |
| Admin account details | Verify who manages a mosque or events listing and let them sign in to edit it. |
| Donation details | Process the payment via Stripe and send you a receipt. |
How long we keep it
Feedback, timetable, and event submissions are kept only as long as needed to act on them, and are periodically cleared once resolved. Admin accounts are kept for as long as the account is active. Donation records are kept as required for our own accounting and tax obligations. Anything stored only on your device is deleted the moment you uninstall the app.
Requesting deletion
You can ask us to delete any personal data we hold about you at any time — whether that's a feedback submission, an admin account, or donation records.
How to request it
Email deenfinder.app@gmail.com with the subject line Data Deletion Request, and include:
- The email address you used (for a submission, donation, or admin account), if any.
- Roughly when you submitted it, or which mosque/events listing the account belongs to.
- What you'd like deleted — e.g. "all my feedback submissions" or "my mosque admin account."
We'll confirm and complete deletion within 30 days. If a record must be kept for a legal or accounting reason (for example, a completed donation), we'll tell you what we're keeping and why.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Ask us to delete your data (see Section 6).
- Object to or restrict certain uses of your data.
- Withdraw location permission at any time, in your device's app settings — the app still works with manually entered city instead.
These include rights under the UK/EU GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we honour equivalent requests regardless of where you're located. To exercise any of them, use the contact details in Section 11.
Children's privacy
Deen Finder is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Admin accounts and app data are stored in Firebase with access-controlled security rules, and donation payments are handled entirely by Stripe's PCI-compliant infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable, industry-standard steps to protect what we hold.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, note it in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Deen Finder after a change means you accept the updated policy.
